how much should i charge for this gig?
Im in a jazz band. It's a quartet, (drummer, sax, bass & piano) and we're playing at a 50th birthday party. its a private party so its not a massive event. this is our first payed event although we are pretty experienced in performing. we are doing a minimum 2 hour set although probably longer. How much should we charge? I am 15 and the other band members are 19
I have been doing gigs similar to what you described for many years. Being that you are just starting out, you may want to keep the price down a little. If I booked the job myself, I would probably charge around $650 for 3 hours or less. If it was done by an agent, they would probably charge $800 to $850. Again, since you are new to the business, you may want to charge $300 to $350. Playing the correct volume level and watching the guests is important. You will learn to read the crowd and adjust your performance accordingly. One other thing, proper dress is important. Business casual usually looks better than old jeans.
