What song should I sing for Kiss me Kate audition?
I was thinking of Gimme Gimme or a Cole Porter song I could learn. What is a good Cole porter song to do? I dont care if I get a lead, I'd be fine in the chorus. I dont have any sheet music or accompaniment, would it look completely bad to sing acapella? its a community theatre. Ive only done one play there before 3 years ago. thank you for your help?
Hi! Kiss Me, Kate is a truly hilarious musical, and the good news is that there are tons of great audition songs! However, let's start with the ones you should avoid first.
I would avoid Gimme Gimme simply because it's one of the most overdone songs right now at both auditions and voice recitals. (I think I've heard at least 5 girls do it at various recitals!) If you'd like to do a song from Millie- although it's smart to avoid it altogether and stick with the classics- try Jimmy.
Stick with older stuff. A Trip to the Library from She Loves Me is an adorable song with tons of personality, even though it isn't by Cole Porter. Another belty one from that show is I Resolve. Both of those songs have tons of sass, which is great for Bianca in Kiss Me, Kate. If you want to stick with Cole Porter, try songs from Anything Goes and Silk Stockings (It's a Chemical Reaction and Silk & Satin are both pretty cute. Silk & Satin might be perfect for this audition!)
