How should one store a bunch of records and cds?

I inherited about 500 CDs/Phonograph Records.
Are the records which are rock and jazz worth anything? And for the ones that I want to keep, how should I store them?
any good cataloging programs?
Store the records vertically (don't stack them) in a cool dry place. I would say the same thing for the CDs, although CDs are not quite as sensitive to heat as vinyl.
As far as value, it's difficult to say without knowing what you have. The condition of the records is extremely important to their value. If they are in close to new condition, and you have some rarities in there. you could have some valuable records. But if they're scratched, the'ye not worth much at all.
