I play guitar and will be trying out for my high school's jazz band this September. What are all the chords that I need to memorize in order to be in a good shape for the audition? Also, my guitar teacher has told me to listen to jazz music to get the feel of the game. I know Count Basie, Miles Davis, Louis Armstrong, Charlie Parker, etc. are famous but I've never really listened to jazz in my life and was wondering if you guys could tell me which musicians to listen to for getting the feel of guitar? Like to inspire me for rhythm, strumming methods, and so on? Plus, if you're currently playing instruments (preferably guitar) in your high school's jazz band, please tell me specifically which songs you practice, how many hours you spend a day to practice those songs at school or at home, and generally how fun/time-consuming it is.
