A man named Samuel Morton went around the world in the 19th century measuring skulls of different population groups and found that there were average differences, that African and American Indian groups had smaller skull sizes on average than European/Caucasian groups.
His data was criticized by Stephen Jay Gould in his book Mismeasure of Man. He wrote that the data was all wrong and that Morton was just a racist. Now a team has re-measured the skulls and it turns out that Morton's data was mostly correct, except for some errors that actually went against his supposed racist bias. Meaning, he measured non-White groups as having slightly larger skulls than they actually did.
But the thing is that I don't really care that much. If people misrepresent science to try to get rid of racism, is it a good thing? I think so. I'd like to hear your thoughts though.
the problem with Mortons claims is not that different races have different skull shapes/sizes, the problem is that he claimed the differences reflected difference in intellectual capacity, which isn't true. he also used the differences to suggest that different human races didn't share a common ancestor because he thought the difference were to radical to suggest such a thing, problem with that is genetics completely disprove such a claim.
